The krewe of Lyra, based in Covington, Louisiana, is a coed social networking organization and Mardi Gras krewe established in 2010, whose Stargazing Society, the parading members of the Krewe, made their debut at their inaugural Mardi Gras Ball and Parade in Mandeville on February 5, 2011.
The Krewe is thrilled to represent the new fusion of Mandeville and Covington in it’s unique Coed organization. The Krewe maintains a positive presence in the Northshore Community, a progressive outlook in the Mardi Gras community, and welcomes creative thought while supporting the attributes of altruism and compassion. Lyra’s official call “Long Live Lyra” is answered with the response “La La La Lyra!”
The Krewe welcomes new Social and Riding Members for the 2014 Mardi Gras season. Membership descriptions and details are included on the Membership Page of this website.
The Krewe’s mission is Fun, Friendship and Festivity. Lyra is The Northshore's Premier Coed Mardi Gras Krewe, and a networking association which parades on the traditional Covington Parade Route on Fat Tuesday. The Krewe is dedicated to positively assisting individuals whose lives are impacted by mental illness. The Krewe has forged an alliance with NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) and Board members have participated in functions in the community with similar goals on behalf of the Krewe. We also encourage members to contribute available resources and energy toward the same endeavors.
